Squirrels are always foraging...
and fleeing from me when I catch him feasting on the bird's food...
Squirrel Mischief And Mayhem from Jennifer Darden on Vimeo.
Aaaww....They look so cute. But do not be fooled by those big black eyes, cute little hands, alert ears, and twitching whiskers.
They are cunning, crafty little critters that steal and will not hesitate to destroy any object that gets in between them and food. Great example of determination. Their goal--to eat, and they'll do whatever it takes to achieve that goal!
I threaten them on a daily basis with bodily harm for their gluttony of every culinary crumb I distribute. I wish for a hawk to soar through and pluck the rodent up and carry him off. (no, not really, I'm kidding :)
But in between flailing my arms, clapping my hands, and rattling a bottle of rocks, I have to laugh at their acrobatics as they leap from limb to limb, ferociously chase each other around tree trunks, and bound from tree to tree, never falling.
So, I'll keep enabling their mayhem because I have a cardinal that hovers at my kitchen window, a mockingbird that sits on the deck rail waiting for his cranberries, bluejays that breeze in hoping for a bit of walnut, the fierce little woodpecker that dominates the table, and all the other feathered friends of The Sunflower Seed Estate.
Stay tuned and subscribe for a lot more pictures and videos of the mischief and mayhem at my wildlife sanctuary!
